The most expensive thing in the AI sideline is often not a subscription fee of tens of yuan a month.
What is even more expensive is that you bought tools, hoard courses, and read many cases, but you didn't make a sample, didn't ask a customer, and didn't record who was willing to pay. In the end, you don't know if the direction is not good, or you haven't tested it at all.
Make yourself a 30-day test form. Test only one direction, one deliverable, and one customer group at a time. It doesn't matter if you don't have a first order, but you must know after 7 days whether to continue, change or stop.
Change "doing a sideline" to a verifiable hypothesis
"I want to use AI to make money" cannot be verified. Change it to an assumption:
Can I use the [tool combination] to deliver [a specific result] for [a class of customers] within 7 days and get at least 3 real feedbacks or 1 payment intention?
For example: use Claude, cut and fly book forms to make 7 Short videos script packages for local restaurants; use forms, automation tools and AI drafts to make 30 clue follow-up forms for consulting companies; use image models and editing tools to make 3 pilot videos for pet owners.
A hypothesis can only have one deliverable. Don't test "writing articles, making videos, building websites, and selling prompts" at the same time. That is called brushing the sense of presence, not experimentation.
Test sheet must record 10 columns
You can use flying book tables, Notion or the most common Excel. One table in each direction
Don't just write "10,000 exposure". Playings and likes can be recorded, but they are not effective touchdowns. What is useful for sideline verification is whether anyone is willing to talk about their problems, provide materials, make arrangements for communication, or pay after viewing your dailies.
Set a cap on costs first and not let tools make decisions for you
A cost cap is set for the first 7 days in each direction. For example, you only use existing tools, or add new tools for no more than a month's minimum. If you need to buy large classes, buy a large amount of quotas, and rent high-priced accounts to start, suspend it first.
Tool selection is divided into roles: Claude is used to organize customer materials and write first drafts; forms are used to record customers and versions; clipping or similar tools are used to produce samples; automated tools are only connected after the manual process has been completed. Don't set up 7 Agents in the first week just to appear professional.
The purpose of the cost cap is not to save tens of dollars, but to force you to find out which result the customer is willing to pay for first. Before customers show up, more tools will only make you mistake "configuration" for "progress".
Use AI to help you design tests, don't let it compile cases for you
Give Claude the open questions of the target customer, the materials you can provide, and the minimum deliverables:
I want to test an AI service in 7 days. The target customer is the [crowd], their question is [exact words or public scenarios], I can deliver [specific results], and the existing tools are [tools]. Please output: the minimum sample structure, the materials required by the customer, 5 pieces of contact information, 3 objections that the customer will raise, a 7-day action list and evidence to be recorded each day. Don't make up customer, revenue, transaction rates or platform rules; uncertain places are labeled as "pending verification."
AI can help you walk less blank pages, but samples must be made yourself and customer feedback must be received yourself. Otherwise, you will get a sideline plan that looks complete and has no actual evidence.
Only do these 6 things in 7 days
Day 1: Select questions. Instead of picking industry trends, pick a problem that customers encounter every day. Write down minimum deliverables and cost caps.
Day 2: Make samples. Use virtual or licensed materials to complete a sample that can be understood by the customer. Samples must be marked with demonstrations and do not pass them off as customer results.
Day 3: Make a service card. Write clearly what the customer provides, what you pay, how long it will be delivered, what you cannot promise, and what the test price is.
Day 4: Find 20 targets. Don't send people "I can help you do AI". Find only people who are openly discussing similar issues or who clearly need the outcome.
Day 5: Have 5 effective conversations. The goal is not to close a deal, but to hear how the customer describes the problem. Record the exact words in the table.
Day 6: Quote a small package. For a talent quote with complete materials, the price can be low, but there must be a delivery scope and confirmation node.
Day 7: Make a decision. Open the test table and decide the next step based on the evidence, not emotion.
Use evidence to decide whether to retain or discontinue
Here is a simple criterion:
After 7 days, no one responds to what you see next, and the customer cannot understand what you are selling. Rewrite the service card and there is a reply, but the materials are always incomplete. Sell the diagnosis or template first. Don't take the substitute. Someone is willing to watch the samples but not pay. Check whether the results are clear enough, or test for a smaller price. Someone is willing to give the materials and schedule time to continue making test orders, record the actual working hours. The same problem appears one after another and make it into the next template or weekly package.
Don't say "AI sideline is a scam" just because you didn't collect money in the first week, and don't immediately buy more tools just because someone praises you. What you need is continuous evidence.
How to quote the first test order
The test price can be 9.9 yuan for template, 99 yuan for diagnosis, and 299 yuan for small production, depending on the results you deliver. The three prices correspond to three different goals: template verification whether problems exist, diagnosing and verifying whether customers are willing to spend money, and agent verification whether you can deliver stably.
Don't treat 9.9 yuan as a result of making money. It is just a demand receipt. What really matters is: how much time you spend, how many times you rework it, and whether the customer is willing to keep buying the next step.
Build this watch today
Choose a direction today and write down customers, deliverables and cost caps.
Make a demo tomorrow without taking course notes.
Find 20 real people the day after tomorrow and don't report "sudden wealth cases".
On the seventh day, it is decided whether to retain or stop it based on the evidence on the table.
AI sideline is not about who wins who sees the most opportunities. Whoever can complete a true verification at the lowest cost will know where to invest the next amount of time.
